Alexandre Evariste Fragonard, son of the famous Rococo painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard, created this pair of vases between 1832 and 1844. Made of porcelain, they are decorated with a cobalt blue background, and the ornate gold accents and a white painted scene of a woman with a shepherd dog are characteristic of Fragonard's style. The vases stand on square bases, and the handles are intricately crafted to resemble scrolling vines. These vases are now part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection.
