Lech Jankowski made this diptych, titled "12 mástiles de remo para el transporte de violeta. Con una pausa. Dedicado al Sr. Ignacio Iturria", on April 1st, 2020, and it feels like looking into a strange world. The surface is so worked, so textured, it's almost like you could touch the atmosphere. The lower portion of the painting has these vertical lines ending in rectangular shapes that could be oars - or not! The paint is layered, thick in places, especially towards the top, but then it thins out. The upper part feels like a storm, a brewing sky. It makes me think of Anselm Kiefer, how he builds up surfaces with all kinds of materials to create something that's both beautiful and a bit unsettling. This piece is an invitation to slow down, to let your eyes wander, and to find your own story within its depths.
