"Bacchanale" is an engraving by the Master I.B., an artist active between 1525 and 1530. The print, held by the Art Institute of Chicago, depicts a scene from Roman mythology, likely inspired by the Roman poet Ovid. The composition is a long horizontal panel, filled with a procession of figures. There is a lavish chariot, a couple of centaurs, and a woman, likely Bacchus, seated on a throne, surrounded by people and creatures. The highly detailed, intricate, and linear quality of the image is characteristic of the Renaissance engraving style.
