Editor: So, here we have "Colour Column on Suede" by Jack Bush. No date is listed. At first glance, the painting evokes a sense of playfulness, yet something about the subdued background tone holds it back. What do you see in this piece? Curator: It’s interesting you say that, because I feel a similar push and pull. The suede backdrop, almost like aged parchment, provides a soft contrast to the bold, almost childlike blocks of color. It feels intuitive. Bush is making a statement with those colours, a conversation between the vibrancy of the colour blocks, and the muteness of what surrounds them. What do you make of the scale? Editor: It's imposing, yet inviting. It almost feels alive. I love how those contrasting colours make it so striking. Curator: Exactly! It's a dance, a conversation, and it's wonderful to see how differently each viewer responds. I am sure Bush would be thrilled. Editor: Absolutely, I can see the intention behind it. It has been really interesting to have another view on this piece.
