This Klagetoh type rug was created by a Navajo (Diné) artist, and it's a real testament to the power of process in art making. The palette here is so interesting – earthy neutrals punctuated by these hits of red. The design feels both ancient and modern, abstract but also full of meaning. I’m thinking about how the weaver’s hands moved, knot by knot, building up this intricate pattern. The central motif is a real focal point, almost like a sun or a star, with these radiating forms that feel so balanced. And then the border, with those zig-zagging lines, is like a frame within a frame, containing all that energy. Thinking about other artists who played with similar ideas of geometry and pattern, I can’t help but think of Agnes Martin. But where Martin's work is all about quiet Minimalism, this rug is bursting with life and story. Ultimately, it reminds me that art is always a conversation, a weaving together of different voices and traditions.
