Curator: Ah, there's something almost cinematic about it, wouldn't you agree? Editor: Yes, this work immediately casts a spell, a romantic one tinged with mystery. The subject is just beautiful, posed beneath what seems to be a giant moon. But it's called "Must be the season of", and its maker is Fernanda Suarez. Curator: Indeed. And when you start breaking down the image’s elements—the limited palette, predominately earth tones against this amber light—one discerns how the composition leans into contrasts. Editor: Totally. Look at the light! It makes everything feel golden. It feels very magical and strange, right? She looks lost and dreamy and like maybe she could be a witch. What's she doing in that field anyway? Curator: I think what enhances that "witchy" effect is her elegant black attire, with the almost diaphanous texture around the bodice. Then, if one looks closer, it may appear less like moonlight, more like a beacon; she is framed against the sky and horizon. Editor: Right. But that black against the golden background-- and her beautiful pale skin, her vibrant hair... it all feels balanced but dramatic! I wonder if those birds represent souls or maybe just change... that 'season'. What is 'the season' anyway? It has this strange emotional tug! Is it a season for ghosts? A season for spells? Curator: Yes, an evocative mystery hangs in the air and in the details of the artwork. Editor: I’d be happy to just wander in that artwork all afternoon. Curator: Well, in our hyper-mediated world, it's striking how still and immersive an image can still manage to be. Editor: I hope whoever made it, keeps going-- what's next?!
