Edwin Georgi created this magazine cover, A Fiesta of Love, using oil paint. And I can imagine him, brush in hand, as he coaxes the image into being. The woman’s gaze drifts away, maybe she’s thinking of a lover, maybe she’s just daydreaming. The paint is applied in loose strokes. The gold accents in her hair, those touches of green and blue, how bold! The red of her lips – so luscious. I wonder, was Edwin in love? Was he painting the woman he loved, or was he painting an ideal? Looking at the textures, the colours, the way the light hits her face, I feel a connection to Edwin, the painter, even though we're separated by time. This sharing, this ongoing conversation, is what keeps painting alive. We borrow, steal, and reinvent – each artist adding a new perspective, a new voice.
