This is a letter written by Emile Bernard, full of handwritten script. It's interesting, isn’t it, how the way the letters are formed and arranged becomes like a kind of abstract drawing in itself? The ink has faded, leaving delicate, almost ghostly traces on the paper. It makes me think about the act of writing, the pressure of the pen on the page, the way words accumulate and build up layers of meaning. If you look closely, you can see how some words are darker, more emphatic, like little bursts of energy on the surface. It’s almost like the painting version of impasto. I find it particularly striking how some of the lines overlap and intersect, creating a dense, interwoven texture. It reminds me of some of Cy Twombly's scribbled drawings, or even some of the automatic writing of the Surrealists. With all of these artists, ambiguity is the point. It’s about suggesting possibilities rather than prescribing a singular interpretation.
