This clear glass cup plate, created sometime between 1830 and 1835, features a delicate pressed glass design of two birds flanking a vase of flowers. The plate's rim is ornamented with a scalloped edge and a repeating pattern of small, raised dots. Though created by an unknown artist, this plate is a prime example of 19th-century American pressed glass production. While the plate's function was most likely for holding cups, it is also a compelling example of decorative arts, showcasing the intricate detail achievable through this manufacturing process. It is currently housed in the Art Institute of Chicago.
