This is a silver medal created by Franz Stuckhart to commemorate the discovery of the mineral springs of Karlsbad. On one side, we see a hunting scene, a man with a spear, and his hound, set against a landscape. The act of discovery, often framed within the context of the hunt, bears a striking resemblance to ancient mythologies, such as the story of Actaeon. Actaeon, a hunter, stumbled upon Diana, the goddess of the hunt, bathing; his intrusion led to his transformation into a stag and his subsequent pursuit and death by his own hounds. Here, the iconography of the hunt symbolizes not just discovery but a deeper, almost primal encounter with the natural world, laden with potential consequences. This medal then is not merely a record of an event, but an echo of humanity's complex relationship with nature, resonating across centuries.
