This silver medal, created by Sebastian Dadler in 1634, commemorates the death of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. The obverse depicts the king’s ascension to heaven as angels carry him up to a heavenly throne. The reverse depicts a chariot carrying the figure of Victory, driven by Minerva. The medal's inscription translates to "The Great King and Liberator of the German Nation, the Glorious Prince, Gustavus Adolphus, King of the Swedes, Goths and Vandals." The medal is an excellent example of Renaissance-era medallic art, and its intricate details and symbolic imagery offer insight into the political and cultural climate of the time.
