Worden Day made 'Lone Hunter', using some kind of printmaking technique - I love the way the colours are laid down, almost like she’s sketching with colour, figuring out the composition as she goes. The surface has this beautiful, slightly rough texture. The shapes feel both familiar and totally alien, and the colours are so evocative, they create this strange, dreamlike space. Look at the way the line zigs and zags across the surface – it feels like a code, a language that’s just out of reach. I love that. It reminds me of Guston's later work, where forms emerge from a haze of marks. It's like Day is constructing a world from pure feeling. Ultimately, what I love most about ‘Lone Hunter’ is its ambiguity, it’s willingness to embrace the unknown. It reminds me that art isn’t about answers, it’s about asking questions and being open to the possibilities.
