This is a photograph of a landscape in Tószeg by Jan Lanting, and I’m immediately curious about the artist. What did they make of the world? How did they see it? I like the texture of the land. The contrast between the top and the bottom is interesting. There are lots of marks in the grass below. And it almost seems like the picture is moving from a black and white to a sepia tone. Was the artist thinking about depth? About time? Was this an exercise? Artists are always in conversation. It's a continuing exchange of ideas across time, inspiring creativity. There's an element of embodied expression in every painting that allows for multiple interpretations and meaning. It's always great to keep an open mind.
