Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan painted these dogs in a landscape using thin paint, almost like watercolour, applied in visible strokes. It’s as if he wanted to capture a fleeting glimpse, a memory of these animals rather than a detailed portrait. I’m drawn to the way the paint seems to hover on the surface, creating a sense of movement and fluidity. Look at the way the artist defines the form of the dogs with broad strokes of colour, capturing their energy and vitality. The palette is earthy – browns, reds, and greens – with touches of yellow that catch the light. The brushstrokes are loose and gestural, conveying a sense of spontaneity and immediacy. There's a raw, expressive quality reminiscent of early Expressionist painters like Emil Nolde, who were also interested in capturing the emotional intensity of their subjects. Like Nolde, Weisz-Kubínčan seems less concerned with accurate representation and more focused on conveying a feeling. It’s in these open-ended conversations between artists that we find new ways of seeing and experiencing the world.
