Robert Frank made this photographic contact sheet, 11th Street story 48, by exposing light onto silver gelatin. I love that we see the whole roll laid out, like a storyboard. It shows so clearly how Frank was thinking, moving, and seeing. He must have walked down the street, snapping away, trying to capture a feeling, a moment. I can imagine him, eyes wide open, trying to translate the world around him. You can see the street scenes, the people, and the city's architecture all merging together. What was he looking for? Was he satisfied with any of these frames? Probably not, because that's the artist's curse – always searching, always questioning. Looking at these images reminds me that being an artist is about embracing the process, trusting your instincts, and allowing for happy accidents along the way. It’s this conversation, this exchange of ideas across time that keeps us all going, inspiring each other to see the world in new and unexpected ways.
