Ray Price made this painting of a table lamp with watercolors, sometime in the 20th century. I’m really taken by the way Price approached the subject. It’s so...straightforward. I can almost feel Price sitting there, trying to capture the essence of this ornate lamp. The soft washes of color, the delicate lines – it feels like a real act of observation. I imagine Price was interested in the lamp’s geometric forms and textures. The contrast between the smooth globe and the fluted column. The way the light might have played across those surfaces. It's a quiet, reflective piece, not trying to be flashy, but really seeing. It also reminds me that artists are always looking, always learning from each other. There's something so timeless about that conversation.
