Yuri Zlotnikov made "Two Compositions" with what looks like marker pen, maybe even crayon. There is something so immediate and free about the way the marks accumulate that speaks to the basic joy of making art. I find my eye gravitating to those saturated rectangles of red and purple. You can really feel the pressure of the artist’s hand as the colour blooms out from the centre, creating an almost rough, tactile surface. These areas act as anchors, while the rest of the composition seems to dance around them. This isn't about perfection; it's about embracing the unexpected. The scattered marks and lines create a visual rhythm that reminds me of Joan Miró, both artists understood that the process of painting is a kind of conversation, a back-and-forth between intention and accident. It’s a reminder that art, at its best, embraces ambiguity and multiple interpretations.
