Still Life In Space 1984

Fab 5 Freddy made this painting called *Still Life in Space* and I can only imagine the sheer joy he must have felt while making this! Imagine Freddy with his spray can in hand, moving around the canvas, laying down those bright oranges, reds, and yellows. I can picture him stepping back, squinting, and then adding those bold black outlines, really making those fruit shapes POP! There’s something really playful about the textures here, that contrast between the smooth spray paint and the slightly rougher edges. And space—what a place to set a still life! This feels like a nod to the great still life painters, like Cezanne, but with that amazing graffiti twist Freddy is known for. It's like he’s saying, hey, art history is cool, but let’s take it to outer space! It makes me think about how all artists are in conversation with each other, across time and place, and Freddy adds his own unique voice to that conversation.
