This painting, called Sign I, by Pablo Palazuelo, features a minimal palette of red, pale yellow, and gray. Just imagine the focus and precision that went into mapping out these shapes, and the courage it must have taken to leave so much of the canvas bare. I wonder, did Palazuelo begin with an abstract idea, or did these forms emerge through the act of painting itself? It feels so architectural, like he’s drafting a blueprint for an impossible building. The thin lines create a sense of depth, suggesting layers and planes. Each angle and intersection feels carefully considered. The red pops against the gray, creating a visual tension that keeps your eye moving around the canvas. And then there are those tiny slivers of pale yellow, highlighting the edges of the red shapes, giving them an almost otherworldly glow. I imagine Palazuelo working slowly, deliberately, each stroke building upon the last. It’s like he's building a world with just a few simple elements. I love how these forms suggest meaning without ever quite revealing it, like a secret language. It makes me want to grab a brush and explore my own visual vocabulary.
