Lech Jankowski made "la geometria del taburete luminoso" using oil on fibreboard, a small 19 x 24 cm painting. I can only imagine Lech in his studio trying to get the geometry of this form. Look at the texture and colour, there's so much going on here - so many layers of grey and brown. It makes me think of the way that a drawing can feel like a sculpture. The lines are strong and they hold everything in place. The lavender vertical lines feel like a way to measure the distance between the top and the bottom, like a plumb line for the stool in the title. The surface of the painting is also important, it feels like a skin or a membrane that separates us from the scene itself. It is a conversation between him and the history of painting. Every artist is in dialogue with one another.
