James Rosenquist made this print, *Time Door Time D’Or*, using lithography and screenprinting, a process that builds up layers, kind of like how our minds assemble memories. The palette is explosive – reds and whites burst against a deep, star-speckled black, creating a sense of depth, like looking into a void. Rosenquist has left a spray of white paint in the centre, it’s as if it’s come from a spray can and given the whole thing a raw, spontaneous edge. It's this physicality that grabs me; you can almost feel the artist's hand in the process. And then there’s the door, or rather, the fragmented image of a door, with an eye peeking through. It reminds me of Magritte, this play with representation, this idea that art isn't just about what you see, but how you see. It’s a bit like a dream, isn't it? A collision of images and ideas, where time bends and reality shifts.
