This photograph titled, *Luchthaven Schiphol, gezien vanuit de lucht*, of Schiphol Airport, seen from the air, was made by an anonymous artist. Looking at this image, I'm struck by the tonal range. It's so beautiful, and the range of tones create textures and gradients. Like the different shades of grey in the upper-left farmland, which is a different shade of grey compared to the lower farmland. The diagonal lines of the fields direct the eye, but it’s the way the photograph captures the fields next to the runways that I find so intriguing. There is so much detail in the planes and buildings. It almost looks like an architectural rendering. I’m reminded of aerial views by Charles and Ray Eames, who similarly made this connection between the design of space and the experience of being within it. Ultimately, this photograph is a testament to the many ways of seeing and experiencing our surroundings.
