Kaïn en Abel als landbouwer en herder c. 1645 - 1740

This 17th-century engraving by Christoffel van (II) Sichem depicts the biblical story of Cain and Abel. In the image, Cain, the farmer, is tilling the soil with a plow pulled by a donkey, while Abel, the shepherd, tends to his flock of sheep. The scene reflects the traditional interpretations of Cain and Abel as representing different ways of life, and the engraving is likely from a larger illustrated book. This work, titled "Kaïn en Abel als landbouwer en herder", is currently housed in the Rijksmuseum.
