Angelo de Sousa made this untitled painting on April 24th, 1967, and just looking at it I can tell that he was really into the *process* of painting, like me. The colors—that salmon, green, and tan combo—they feel both intentional and a bit off-kilter, right? Up close, you'll see how the colors bleed into each other, creating these hazy edges. It's like de Sousa wasn’t trying to create a perfect image, but to explore the physicality of paint and how colors interact. See that curvy green line that defines the top of the central shape? It’s not precise, but it’s full of energy, suggesting movement and change. It's like he's saying, hey, this is a painting, not a window! This feels a little bit like some of Forrest Bess's paintings, where the process is as important as the image, or maybe even more so. Art is an ongoing conversation, and de Sousa is right in the middle of it.
