Lennart Rodhe made "Färgkomposition med blommor", or Colour Composition with Flowers, by using a screen printing process to produce flat areas of pure colour. There's something very appealing about this flattened, screen printed image, with its flowers and ribbons rendered in a simple, graphic style. The shapes are so clearly defined, and the colours are so bold. Notice how Rodhe layers pink and blue with the black background to create a kind of visual push and pull. It’s a celebration of colour and form. It reminds me a little bit of Matisse's cut outs, but with a Scandinavian twist. There's a similar joy in pattern and decoration. The simplicity of the marks, the way each colour sits so distinctly next to the others, it’s all part of a bigger conversation about how we see and experience the world through art.
