Editor: This photograph, titled "Untitled (workers in field)" by Hamblin Studio, shows laborers in a field. The negative gives it an eerie quality, and I’m struck by the repetitive action of the workers. How do you interpret this work in relation to labor and materials? Curator: Looking at this, I'm drawn to the process of creation itself. Consider the physical labor embodied not only in the agricultural work depicted, but also in the photographic process. The Hamblin Studio captured a very specific moment in the production of goods. How does this image speak to consumption and our relationship with labor? Editor: It makes me think about how disconnected we are from the origins of what we consume daily. Thank you; I’ll certainly consider that! Curator: Absolutely. Thinking about the means of production changes how we look at the image, and the world around us.
