Antonio Corpora made this party on a canvas, sometime in the 20th century, using oil paint. Look at how the bright green frame pops, like a fresh, new perspective. Corpora's process feels intuitive. The way the blues and greens drip and dance across the canvas lets us know that the consistency of the paint is thin, almost watery. This gives the painting a feeling of spontaneity, like catching a moment in mid-air. The texture is smooth, the colors vivid against the dark background. There is an area with short red bursts of paint. These marks draw the eye, creating a sense of depth and dynamism. It's as if Corpora is inviting us to witness a world being born, or maybe just a new way of seeing an old one. This playful use of color and gesture reminds me a bit of Joan Miró, who also wasn't afraid to let loose and let the paint do its thing. Art is just a big conversation, where artists riff off each other and build on each other's ideas. Isn't that beautiful?
