Perle Fine made "Ideomorphic Composition #1" with oil paint, and it's a reminder that art can be a verb as much as a noun. The colors are bright and lively, with oranges, reds and greens creating these rhythmic stripes that make my eyes dance. The surface feels smooth, like the paint was applied in thin, even layers, almost hiding the process of its making. But look closer, and you'll see how those lines, especially the curved ones, create movement. See the blue square near the top? It’s like a solid anchor in a sea of shifting shapes. This small area, so contained and calm, kind of holds the whole piece together. Fine’s work reminds me of Hilma af Klint, who was also exploring abstraction and symbolism. Both artists invite us to see beyond the surface, to find our own meanings in the interplay of color, form, and line.
