War Room 2002
Dimensions sheet: 44.7 x 59.4 cm (17 5/8 x 23 3/8 in.)
Editor: This is "War Room" by Amze James Emmons, a drawing with sparse red lines on a pale sheet, currently held at the Harvard Art Museums. It feels unsettling, almost like a stage set. What do you make of it? Curator: It's interesting how Emmons uses the stark perspective to evoke power and surveillance. The 'war room' concept, historically loaded, is stripped bare. What socio-political narratives do you think this evokes in our current climate? Editor: I guess it speaks to the transparency, or lack thereof, in decision-making. It feels sterile. Curator: Precisely. Perhaps Emmons critiques the very architecture and institutional spaces where such decisions are made. It's a powerful statement. Editor: I hadn’t considered the institutional critique element so explicitly. Thanks!
