This "Panel (Yattha)", was made by an anonymous artist, its date unknown. It shows the way art making is a process. When I look at this panel, I see a tapestry, where you have the structure of the weave holding the image, or maybe the image holding the weave. The texture, color, and surface feel very important. It seems like they’re telling stories through the process of making, with simple, accessible, and friendly marks. Look at how the deep browns and oranges play off against the more vibrant blues. The rhythm created by the woven lines takes on a life of its own, like a visual heartbeat. What is really remarkable is how that one continuous gesture creates this expansive field of meaning. Like Anni Albers, this textile presents an ongoing conversation and exchange of ideas across time. The way this artwork embraces ambiguity invites us to bring our own interpretations to the piece.
