This is a bill, by Reinier Willem Petrus de Vries Jr., for the design of apothecary labels, probably made with pen and ink. It's funny, isn't it? To see art reduced to an invoice. But look at that handwriting. It's so fluid, so full of personality. I love the way he varies the pressure on the pen, creating thick and thin lines that dance across the page. It gives a real sense of movement, of energy. And the way he crams everything in, almost like he's afraid of wasting space. It reminds me of my own process, actually – that feeling of wanting to fill every inch of the canvas with something meaningful. Look at the flourish under the total amount – that's not just accounting, that's performance. You know, seeing this makes me think of other artists who blurred the lines between art and everyday life, like Kurt Schwitters, maybe. It’s a reminder that art can be found in the most unexpected places, even in a simple bill. And that sometimes, the most ordinary things can be the most beautiful.
