This anonymous painting, "Fragment van de Nederlandse vlag," dating back to around 1840, is a depiction of the coat of arms of the United Provinces of the Netherlands. The central image features a lion holding a bundle of arrows, a symbol of strength and unity. Surrounding the lion are the coats of arms of the seven provinces, each with its own distinctive design. The inscription "Willem den Eerste Souverein Vorst Der Zeven Provintien" (Willem the First Sovereign Prince of the Seven Provinces) indicates that this artwork commemorates the establishment of the Dutch Republic under William I, the "Silent" Prince of Orange. The painting is currently on display at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
