"Achior Pleading with Holofernes for the Israelites" is an engraving by Philip Galle, depicting a scene from the biblical story of Judith and Holofernes. This is the first plate from a series, known as "The Story of Judith and Holofernes," which was produced in 1564. The engraving illustrates the moment when Achior, a general from the Ammonites, pleads with the Assyrian general Holofernes to spare the Israelites from destruction. Achior is shown kneeling before Holofernes, who sits on a throne surrounded by soldiers. The image is a powerful depiction of the conflict between faith and power, and is a testament to the skill of the engraver Philip Galle. This piece can be viewed at the Art Institute of Chicago.
