John Hoyland made 25. 4. 69 in 1969, and you can see how he's just letting the paint do its thing, dribbling and pooling. It's all about the process, right? Look at the surface: thick, luscious layers of paint, kind of transparent in places. The yellow paint at the top just cascades down, like honey or something. I can almost feel the stickiness. Then, bam! A solid block of brown, anchoring the whole thing. It's like he's saying, "Okay, let's get serious for a second." And that little pop of red and green at the bottom? It's like a wink, a little surprise. Hoyland reminds me a bit of Helen Frankenthaler, with that stain painting technique, but he's got his own thing going on. It's all about color, texture, and feeling. Definite ambiguity here, but it's a good ambiguity.
