Editor: This striking print by Gerd Winner features an anonymous urban facade, rendered in high-contrast blacks and reds. There's a certain solemnity to the piece, almost oppressive. What story do you think it's trying to tell? Curator: Oh, I adore that sense of melancholy you picked up on! To me, it whispers of forgotten industrial spaces, maybe warehouses along the Thames, wouldn't you agree? Notice how the flat planes of color push against the gritty texture of the brick. Winner invites us to ponder the beauty in decay, the stories etched into these silent buildings. What do you feel when you look at those closed doors? Editor: That contrast between flat colour and texture is interesting, and I hadn't considered the doors. It feels like a challenge, or a barrier. Curator: Exactly! Perhaps a barrier to the past, or to some hidden truth within the city's heart? Food for thought!
