Curatorial notes
David van der Kellen created this landscape using etching techniques. Notice the cottage nestled among the trees, a universal symbol of home and refuge. The trees themselves are powerful motifs. They are reminiscent of the Tree of Life, or the groves of ancient mythology, embodying ideas of growth and connection between earth and sky. We can trace this symbol back through countless artistic traditions, from ancient Egyptian art to Renaissance paintings, each time subtly shifting in meaning yet still resonating with a profound sense of vitality. The path, too, is deeply symbolic. It represents the journey of life, the choices we make, and the unknown that lies ahead. The image touches on our deepest emotions and subconscious associations with nature, home, and the ever-unfolding path of our existence. Its power comes from its ability to tap into our collective memory. The image invites introspection, a journey through the landscape of our souls.
