This Commandeurskruis der Kroonorde van Roemenië, made by Joseph Resehl Fü, sits nestled in its case, a little like a vibrant jewel waiting to be discovered. I can imagine the meticulous process involved in its creation, each element carefully considered and precisely placed. It’s not painting, but there is a sense of layering and building, like constructing a composition. The colors are so striking, and the ribbon with its pattern reminds me of the way some abstract artists use repetition to create rhythm and movement. This reminds me of Eva Hesse’s latex sculptures, but also some of those Byzantine mosaics, and I am sure Resehl was looking at them too.
