This silver drachma, or coin, from the Sasanian Empire depicts Chosroes I (Khosrow I), a king known for his reign from 531-579 AD. On one side of the coin, Chosroes is shown in profile, wearing a crown and traditional clothing. The reverse side features an image of the king receiving a crown from a deity. These coins were a form of currency during this period and were important for both trade and governance. The Art Institute of Chicago houses this small but significant piece of Sasanian art.
