This is a news bulletin from May 5th, 1945, printed in the Netherlands. You can almost feel the urgency in the typewritten text, the way the words are packed together, like information bursting to get out. There’s a raw, unfiltered quality to it. It’s as if the act of communicating the news is more important than perfect presentation. Looking closely, you can see the texture of the paper, feel the imprint of each letter. This physicality is crucial; it reminds us that this isn’t just data, but a message produced and received by real people in a very specific historical moment. Notice the imperfections, the smudges, and uneven lines. Each one tells a story. This bulletin reminds me of Corita Kent, the pop artist and nun, who used to incorporate text into her prints. Like Corita’s work, this bulletin captures the energy of the moment and the sense of collective experience. Art, like news, is an ongoing dialogue, a way of making sense of the world, even when the meaning isn't crystal clear.
