This "Morgen Bulletin" from May 5, 1945, is literally a found object, made with ink on paper. I wonder about the layout and design. I can imagine the urgency in the air when it was printed. What was it like to choose the fonts, arrange the text, and decide what to emphasize? I imagine the artist, P. Duyff, feeling the gravity of the moment, carefully selecting each word to convey hope, relief, and a call to action. How did they feel when they made it? I imagine they would be happy. In this particular impression, the ink is dense. The words are clear and legible. I notice the serifs and the way they anchor each letter. The texture of the paper feels smooth but strong, like it could survive the ravages of time. The bulletin speaks of liberation. I look to other works of the time to learn more about these times. It reminds us that art can be functional, informational, and deeply emotional. Like a conversation with the past.
