This parasol cotton with gray-green stripes was made by Gustav Schnitzler. It’s hard to know exactly when, but looking at it, I imagine the artist carefully choosing these muted colors. There's something so calming about these straight, gray-green lines on the off-white fabric. I wonder if Schnitzler was thinking about balance and order, or maybe just trying to make something beautiful and functional. I can imagine the texture of the cotton, the way it feels cool and smooth to the touch. It makes me think about everyday life, and how even simple objects can be sources of pleasure and contemplation. Textiles like this remind us that art isn't just about paintings hanging on a wall; it's also about the things we use and live with every day. And how artists, designers and makers are in an ongoing conversation, inspiring each other's creativity across time.
