"Landschap in de schemering" (Landscape in Twilight) is a charcoal drawing by Dutch artist Willem Witsen, created between 1884 and 1887. The artwork, now in the Rijksmuseum, captures a minimalist depiction of a landscape through hazy, atmospheric washes of light and dark tones. Witsen, a key figure in the Hague School, utilized this painterly approach to evoke a sense of tranquility and the subtle shifts in light that occur during dusk. The composition is characterized by a few subtle strokes that suggest trees and a sense of depth. Witsen's evocative use of charcoal and the subdued palette are reminiscent of the Impressionist movement, where he sought to capture the ephemeral effects of light and atmosphere.
