Here is that image by Tadanori Yokoo, whose name I love, that feels like a collage made with scissors and glue, though it’s hard to be sure. Look at how the colors vibrate, pink against red, and that sort of gray-blue, like a faded memory. There's a real push-and-pull happening here. It's flat, and yet, that central planet makes you think of depth, while the way the figures are layered creates a dizzying effect, like a hall of mirrors. I’m intrigued by the repeated figure in the striped shirt. See how they’re arranged in rows, a playful nod to Warhol's repetitions, yet with a chaotic, almost psychedelic twist all of its own. I see echoes of art nouveau in the way the text curves, and hints of Japanese pop art, like a conversation between different eras and styles. I love art that doesn't settle, that keeps moving and questioning.
