This drawing of a model in a skirt seated with her legs crossed was made by Richard Diebenkorn. It has that sketchy, searching quality that I love in drawings. You can see Diebenkorn figuring it out as he goes, almost like a map of his thought process. Look at the way the lines overlap and intersect. It's not about perfect representation, but more about capturing the essence of the figure and the space around her. I’m drawn to the area where the legs cross – how the lines become denser, more tangled. It's a beautiful mess, a visual knot that holds the whole composition together. Diebenkorn reminds me of Matisse, both have that incredible ability to find the extraordinary in the ordinary. It’s not just about what you see, but how you see it. Art isn't about answers; it's about the ongoing conversation, the endless possibilities of interpretation.
