This is Lamouche's print, "De rooverbende van Pedro," and it's full of action. You can imagine the artist building up the drawing, perhaps starting with the outlines, then filling in the details with delicate touches. The colours are bright and lively – reds, yellows, blues – giving it a playful, almost cartoonish feel. I can see a real sense of storytelling here. The artist must have been so invested in the tale, thinking about each character, each scene, almost like directing a little play on paper. I love how the artist brings together different scenes from the story onto one page. There's a wonderful back-and-forth between reality and imagination in how people and animals relate to one another. It reminds me of other cartoonists and printmakers who were experimenting with narrative and image-making at the time. The artist's hand is present in every line, inviting us to enter a world of imagination and possibility.
