Lamouche's ‘Avonturen van Don Quichot’ is a comic scene, made with print. It’s a playful composition of these images, almost like a storyboard. The palette is simple, mostly browns, greens and a little splash of red. The lines are clear and the colours are laid in flat, and it is like there's little blending, which gives the artwork a raw feel. Look at the scene where Don Quixote falls from his horse. The lines are rough, yet they capture the motion of his fall so well. It’s these moments that bring the piece to life! This feels like a precursor to modern comics, and reminds me of the work of George Grosz. Both artists create works that are not so much about the individual image but about the narrative told over a series of images. It's all about movement, and the process is visible.
