Benjamin Brown created this aquatint titled "Grand Canyon - Evening Glow". The play of light and shadow in this landscape speaks to us of time, space, and a profound connection to nature, which echoes across cultures and centuries. The image of a flowing river, such as the one at the bottom of the Canyon, can be found in ancient Egyptian art, often symbolizing life's journey, from birth to death and rebirth. Similarly, the mountains evoke a sense of stability and the sublime, a feeling mirrored in Chinese landscape painting, where mountains represent the connection between earth and heaven. Such symbols possess a non-linear history. Though geographically distant and culturally distinct, both representations tap into a collective human consciousness. They reveal our subconscious need to find meaning in the natural world and to imprint our emotions on the landscape. In Brown's aquatint, the grand canyon becomes a stage for our own emotional and psychological projections.
