Vilen Barsky made this untitled work with paint and ink. The shapes seem to have a life of their own, like a dance between intention and accident. I find myself drawn to the way the blue splatters, almost defiant against the softer blurs of the gray ink. The material quality is striking, like the paint was thrown on and then coaxed into shape. The ink creates a soft, almost ghostly effect. Look at the spiky edges of the gray forms; they give an eerie yet playful vibe. This piece reminds me of Joan Miró, who also had this knack for making the unconscious look so damn good. Art isn't about answers but about the conversations we have with the work, and with each other.
