Mathieu Lauweriks made this design for a silver vase, but when, where, and with what, remains a mystery—intriguing, right? Looking at this drawing, I imagine Lauweriks, perhaps hunched over a gridded page, a pencil in hand, meticulously planning this piece. I can almost see the sharp point of the pencil moving across the paper, each line carefully considered. I wonder what he was thinking, what ideals he was trying to capture within these curving lines and calculated circles? I'm struck by the duality here: the grid offering structure versus the organic, flowing forms of the vase. It's as if Lauweriks is trying to reconcile the rational with the natural, to bring a sense of order to the fluid beauty of nature. I admire the way the vase seems to blossom from the rigid grid. It's like he’s inviting us to consider how art and design can both honor and transcend the constraints of their mediums.
