Mathieu Lauweriks made this silver flower vase design without a specific date, and honestly, the grid underneath the sketch is kind of the star for me! The design is there, of course, these swooping, bulbous shapes. The kind of thing you see in silver all the time, but its the grid that makes it sing. It makes me think about the hidden structures in everything; how even the wildest, most organic forms can be broken down into simple geometry. It's like Lauweriks is showing us the scaffolding, the underlying logic that holds everything together. I see this design and I think about Hilma af Klint, you know? Another artist obsessed with hidden orders, trying to map out the universe with lines and shapes. It's all connected, this art stuff!
