This is Anna Sipkema's calendar sheet for February, featuring lilies of the valley – it's all done with lithography. I can imagine the artist meticulously planning the layout and how the colors would interact. You can almost feel Sipkema relishing the repetition of the floral motifs, turning the calendar into a piece of art. I love the muted palette of greens, browns, and grays, how they contrast and complement each other to create a harmonious and visually engaging design. The linear arrangements of the graphic lilies of the valley create a very particular feeling. The lines feels firm and the flowers feel sturdy, somehow. It reminds me of other graphic designers and artists who were interested in nature. All of these artists are in conversation, inspiring each other, across time. It’s a reminder that art is never created in isolation, but in a rich ecosystem of ideas and influences.
