Oleg Holosiy made Flying Hares with oil on canvas. The bright yellow creates this vibrant feeling, like the whole thing is glowing. It’s like he's making the process visible with the way the paint is applied, like art making is just a big, intuitive experiment. I love how the blue-ish figures are elongated, each holding hands, stretching across this huge surface. It reminds me of some kind of spiritual dance. And then there’s this dark central form, a mass of browns and grays, that looks like a cloud or a strange dark lake. The paint is thin, almost watery in places, allowing the yellow beneath to peek through, and thick and gloopy in others, giving it this really great, uneven texture. It's interesting how the artist juxtaposes these playful figures with such a foreboding, mysterious shape. It’s like a dreamscape and it reminds me of Goya, but with a more contemporary, absurd twist. Art, after all, is an ongoing conversation, full of weird and wonderful interpretations.
